CalARTS Character Animation

The BFA Program in Character Animation is designed for students who seek an understanding of the art of character performance and storytelling in animation.

The Program provides comprehensive artistic and technical training to help each student develop as a fully-fledged animation artist within both the traditional and computer graphic (CG) animation environments. NYU Kanbar Institute of Film & Television: Undergraduate Film & Television

Our program mentors young artists in the traditions and innovations of an evolving media landscape that is deeply rooted in visual storytelling.

Since 1965, our program has had a significant impact on the cultural and artistic landscape. Notable graduates include directors Chris Columbus (Rent, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Night at the Museum), Melina Matsoukas (Beyoncé’s LemonadeMaster of None). Learn more about the program.

Animation Area Courses

USC Cinematic Arts | John C. Hench Division of Animation + Digital Arts

At the John C. Hench Division of Animation + Digital Arts, students explore every aspect of art in motion and learn why animation has become integral to filmmaking and digital media. The Division teaches courses in all facets of animation and digital arts. These include classic character animation, visual storytelling, performance capture, visual effects, motion graphics, immersive media, experimental filmmaking, projection mapping, installations and multimedia, visual production and real-time animation. Students can explore collaborative projects with the interactive games division, production (live action) division, the Thornton School of Music, and the Kaufman School of Dance. MICA Animastion

In cultivating an animation community that is rooted in Baltimore, the Animation Department provides real-world experience to students by leveraging partnerships with local organizations and experts in areas including medicine, science, astronomy, music, gaming, documentary, VR/AR, and cinema. Animation students at MICA learn to create original contemporary artwork with technical accuracy, character depth, and unique narrative arcs.

We use state-of-the-art processes and industry standard computer hardware and software. We don’t just train our students in the mechanics of production, we teach the integration of technology and storytelling best practices. Students emerge from the program as fully-developed artists able to articulate a creative vision using 2D, Stop-Motion, and 3D animation, or a combination. Learn more about the program.
